Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford is releasing the name of the unidentified white male found deceased on August 14, 2024 in a wooded area next to a parking lot on Averyt Avenue.
According to Coroner Rutherford, the victim is identified as Watson Smith “Smitty” Strickland Jr., 74, of Columbia, SC.
“We were able to bring peace to this family by coming together as a community and speaking up on what we see. Looking out for your neighbor is a part of community and Columbia has shown just what community is all about.
