Richland County Coroner Gary Watts is seeking members to join our Community Awareness Response Education (C.A.R.E.) Team. As a member you’ll help provide comfort to surviving family members and their friends through a partnership with area ministers and grief counselors. The C.A.R.E. Team is the vision of Coroner Gary Watts. When he was first elected as Richland County Coroner in 2001 he wanted the Richland County Coroner’s Office to be something more than a death notification agency.
The C.A.R.E. Team concept was born out of memories of a neighbor helping a neighbor concept. In today’s world neighbors may not know each other or may be at work, out of town, or unwilling to get involved. If you’ve experienced loss and have a heartfelt interest, then you may very well understand just how important it means to have a support system in place. Dr. Delores Gulledge, Thanatologist, a 2019 Jefferson Award winner has led the Richland County Coroner’s Office C.A.R.E. Team for the past ten years. If you would like to volunteer your time, please contact Dr. Gulledge at
