RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford has released the identity of the individual who died as a result of a homicide and crash that occurred on Monday, February 23, 2026.
The incident took place along I-20 East near the Clemson Road exit. The victim has been identified as James W. Smith III, 32, of Bishopville, South Carolina.
“We will continue working with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department to fully investigate this homicide.” Coroner Rutherford states.
