Coroner Naida Rutherford and the entire Richland County Coroner’s Office team would like to extend heartfelt gratitude for the help that social media users provided in identifying the person found on I-77 near exit 12. With the public’s assistance, we were able to match the DNA of Terrance Wheeler to family in Columbia. We would like to also thank the Richland County Sheriff’s Department for use of their DNA lab that conducted the confirmatory testing.
We are working with the SC Highway Patrol, Columbia Police Department and the Missing Persons Unit to investigate this complex case. Right now we have more questions than answers and we are asking the public to provide any information they may have regarding Terrance Wheeler’s last hours. No detail is too small. Thank you for everything you have done so far to help us investigate this matter.
