As the population of Richland County grows, the number of investigations and the responsibilities of the RCCO also grows. Richland County Coroner’s investigations increase by an average of 7% each year and the demands placed on the RCCO have increased the pressure on our budget.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office Foundation was formed in 2010 by Coroner Gary Watts for the purpose of raising funds for a number of projects to help the Coroner’s Office do its job better:
- Perform community and safety projects that our regular operating budget does not include.
- Programs for families who have lost a loved one.
- Safety Programs which are offered free of charge to schools, neighborhood associations and civic groups.
- Training – That goes beyond the required 16 hours of Continuing Education per year. The Coroner wants to continuously provide additional training to all Deputy Coroners so they may provide a standard of service which is second to none.
