The Richland County Coroner’s Office was granted accreditation by the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners (IAC&ME). There are over 2300 Coroner/ Medical Examiner Offices in the United States and only 29 are accredited. Richland County Coroner’s Office is one of them!
The Coroner’s Office was subjected to a review of 230 mandatory standards to include administrative, forensic, investigative, and facility review. All this to ensure operating policies, procedures and practices are within international guidelines.
The IAC&ME requires 100% compliance of mandatory standards and 90% of all applicable general standards. Coroner Gary Watts submits to this stringent process to make every effort to provide the highest level of service to our citizens. This is to ensure that the office provides a dedicated team of well-trained investigators. The IAC&ME recognizes that Coroner Gary Watts elects to acquire accreditation for his office due of his desire to strive for excellence in service provision.
Coroner Gary Watts stated that this accreditation is very important to our office as it assists in maintaining a level of trust, compassion, and service to the citizens in our jurisdiction. It also mutually benefits our relationship with our law enforcement partners and EMS.
